ANU TO HOST LANDMARK CONFERENCE ON PUTIN’S RUSSIA
Leading experts from across the globe are gathering at the Australian National University (ANU) next week for one of the most wide-ranging conferences on post-Soviet Russia since the end of the Cold War.
Titled Putin’s Russia in the Wake of the Cold War, the conference welcomes the media as part of its open forum.
Under discussion will be Russia’s military interventions in Ukraine and Syria, and its foreign policy of ‘The Turn to the East” through engagement with China and the Asia-Pacific, as well as domestic issues including the doping scandals, computer hacking, human rights and the alleged instability in Putin’s inner circle of government.
Conference Convener Dr Dorothy Horsfield described the conference as a very timely look at what we know of the motives and intentions of the current Russian government.
High profile speakers will include Professor Richard Sakwa from the University of Kent and Moscow-based Dr Andrey Kortunov, Director General of the Russia International Affairs Council.
